Saffie Lowe-Ceesay, a resident of Brusubi and permanent secretary ministry of health, is still detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul for 4 days now, a close family source revealed.
Saffie’s uncle in Dippa-Kunda, on 22 November, told this reporter that on Saturday, 19 November, while Saffie was attending a meeting at MDI in the evening some men in civilian clothes came and picked her up and took her to Kanifing Police Station where she was held at the CID office. “The entire family members, including her father visited her at the station and we were allowed to speak her briefly,” he said.
On Sunday, 20 November, the uncle added that they visited the station again but were told by the officers that Saffie has being handed over to the NIA and she is currently held there. “It was shocking news that our loved one was moved from police custody to the NIA head office in Banjul. We then proceeded to the NIA who promised us that she would be released on Monday or Tuesday but still now she is yet to be freed,” the uncle disclosed.
However, the NIA landline was called to enquire why PS Lowe-Ceesay, is still held under their custody for more than 72 hours but the telephone kept ringing without any answer.
