Following the announcement of the dismissal of the governors in the five regions of the Gambia, this reporter contacted them to feel their pulse on the issue.

According to Ex-Governor Omar Sompo Ceesay, he is yet to receive a hard copy of his letter of termination which he said was sent to him through his email as he is still unable to access it.

However, Mr. Ceesay said he was informed by a colleague who read the text of the letter to him, adding that the said letter states among other things that the PMO concurs with an executive directive “hereby relieve you of the position of Governor with effective from February 2”.

Reacting to the termination, the URR ex-governor said he received the termination in good faith.

For his part, Omar Khan, the former governor for Central River Region confirmed his dismissal and was quick to add that he is yet to receive his termination letter from the ministry of land and regional administration.

Mr. Khan said he has already handed over and is currently in the Kombos and would give his reaction if he receives the letter.

Siffaye Hydara, the former governor of West Coast confirms receiving her letter, adding that she accepts it in good faith.

As for the former governor of the North Bank Region, he also confirms receiving his termination letter. Lamin Queen Jammeh said he is disappointed with the move which came after they have already congratulated the president and pledged to work with him. He said the minimum expectation from the Government was that they will consolidate democracy and respect the rule of law.

“But to my disappointment, we receive letter of dismissal relying on executive directive,” said Queen Jammeh.

Up to the time of going to press, the ex-governor of Lower River Region, Salifu Puye, could not be reached.
