Real de Banjul silenced cross town rivals Banjul United putting three 
past them to scoop the Super Cup.
Saturday’s clash was a meeting of three halves of Banjul; Real de Banjul up against Banjul United at the Banjul mini-stadium.
The weekend event saw the League Champions rub shoulders with FA Cup holders in an encounter that signified the start of the domestic Gambia Football Federation 2015 league season.
Kitted in their traditional all-whites, Real who’d been the dominant side deservingly raced to the lead with midfielder Alagie Bah burying home the opening goal with a well taken slot from the edge of the box.
BJL United –who were revelation of the previous season – cut shadows of their former self despite being beefed up by the acquisition of ex-Jaalan club striker Modou Njie-Sarr whose departure from Real de Banjul, season ago, was beset by a much rumoured fall-out.
The first-half ended with United trailing a goal down to a side so littered with defensive midfielders, a likely hint of a selection headache to new Real gaffer Amat Cham.
Just when they began to wind up an operation to pick an equalizing goal, Real stepped up to punish Banjul United’s another kamikaze defending.
Starved of the influence of enterprising duo Abdoulie Jallow and skill-struck Bubacarr Trawally, Famara Jarju whose moniker is ‘Kallon’, rose up to the occasion racing down the left flank in a Cristiano Ronaldo-like body balance movement with his unleashed shot rocketing past Banjul United’s goalkeeper for the second goal.
BJL reduced the deficit but it only meant more mystery. The show wasn’t to end without striker Madi Fatty adding to the score sheet as the towering striker tapped from inside the box to wrap up the score on 3-1. Real got D70,000 richer as winners with Bjl securing a consolation of D50,000.
Other league matches were on yesterday with Serrekunda United taking on Bakau United at East, Brikama United against Interior at Boxbar and Wallidan versus Hawks as we went to press.]]>
