The Gambia Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has imposed a fine of D300,000 against one Dekorey Ceesay for constructing a fuel station in Brufut for the purpose of carrying out petroleum supply operations without a license.
PURA in a press release said following an application to their office for a petroleum retail, Dekorey Ceesay was duly informed by a letter dated 10th June 2020, that his application for a petroleum retail license was disapproved by the Minister for Petroleum and Energy.
“Having weighed in the totality of facts surrounding this issue, the authority has carried out an enforcement action against Ceesay to pay a fine of D300,000 for constructing a fuel station in Brufut without the required permit from the authority,” PURA said.
PURA further ordered Ceesay to stop all construction activities in Brufut and added the fine shall become due and payable within fourteen days from the 10th May 2021.
PURA ordered all unlicensed persons or companies operating in the sector to cease operation and apply to the authority to complete their legal obligations as required by law.
