The Serrekunda East mini-stadium will tomorrow be the meeting point of a renewed derby as neighbour West takes an aim at Sukuta in what’s promising to be a nail-biting affair.
The meeting of the pair at the final stage of the Super Nawettan had been quite unlikely giving Sukuta’s failure to go past the quarter-finals hurdles in previous participations. However the boys from Kombo North proved a handful this term skipping past every odd along the way to book a ticket to the finals.
There’s though more to this scintillating meeting. Statistic shows a tie of results between the two sides. Spanning 2005, Sukuta and West have for times with each winning twice.
The Serrekunda outfit slew West 4-1 in group stage of the 2005 zonal championship before the latter they sought revenge, beating their adversaries 2-1 in the final.
West responded in 2013 sashaying over Sukuta by a goal to nil when they squared again at the group stages before Sukuta bit back getting over their nemesis in this year’s Super Nawettan, courtesy of a goal to nothing.
Consequently, the stakes will be more than high when the pair crossed daggers this time at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.
Bankrolled by Fi Bank, Saturday’s showdown is tipped to be the meeting point of hundreds of exited football spectators.
Serrekunda West grabbed a spot in the finals after they dashed Bakau’s hopes of a back-to back Super Nawettan finalist, thanks to a decisive last-gasp goal.
In an earlier semi-final clash Tuesday, Champions Serrekunda East’s dream of a record back-to-back title retention hit the buffers after being smothered by a boisterous Sukuta side.
