B y Sulayman Bah Popular wrestling promoter Gaston Mbengue from neighbouring Senegal has been named after a combat and is set to grace the event in The Gambia, Foroyaa Sport can reveal. The arrangement to bring the renowned wrestling promoter and millionaire to the Gambia, this paper understands, was made by the Gambia-based promotion brand M and B and Burr Touray. “We effectively made use of the presence of Babacarr Diagne Ambassador of Senegal to the Gambia who helped us get to Gaston. We sat with him and he embraced the idea and promised to turn up to the Gambia. There have been reports that he (Gaston) may not show up. People will always talk but we will see,” an official of M and B Promotion said. Should Gaston Mbengue show up as is being anticipated, it will be his first visit to the country this year. He’s tipped to hand over the flag to the winner between Ernest Jatta and Viper combat slated for 21st June at the Independence Stadium. Gambian wrestling this year has been graced by a good chunk of high-profile Senegalese wrestling personalities, first beginning with Bantamba anchor Lamin Samba, followed by the Senegalese Deputy speaker of parliament, the deposed King of Arena Balla Gaye II and most recently Modou Lo. The night of June 21st will feature Kunta Kinteh against Yaya Jammeh, France versus Gainako, Rambo facing Super Etoile and Ernest rubbing shoulders with Viper in the grand combat. ]]>
