PPP Aspirant for Half-Die Ward By-Elections Submits Nomination Papers

The Progress People’s Party (PPP) aspirant for the Half-Die Ward By-Elections on Saturday, 12 April 2025 submitted his nominations paper at the Independent Electoral Commission Regional Office in Banjul.

Two candidates will be contesting for the Half-Die Ward By-Elections. These candidates are contesting under the National People’s Party (NPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP). People’s Alliance Party (PAP) initially showed interest to contest in the said By-Elections but later withdrew from the race, leaving two to scavenge for the empty seat at the Banjul City Council.

Mr Momodou Salieu Jallow, the PPP aspiring candidate after tendering his nomination papers, said he is contesting for the position because he can deliver to the expectations of his people.

“Seeing the turnout of my fellow aspirants from the NPP does not shake me, because my nomination was a personal decision and the reason as to why we keep it low was because we want to respect the lent our christians are observing,” he said.

The PPP candidate said he believes that the people of Half-Die Ward know what they want and that he is motivated by his zeal to work for his people.

Hon. Momodou Lamin Bah the National Assembly Member for Banjul North said all that he believes is progress and in doing so he has to show his support to the PPP aspirant.

“The PPP candidate I came to support today has all it takes to deliver to the people of Half-Die Ward and I have the conviction that he will never fail them; that is why I am showing my full support to him,” he noted.

Mr Pa Bakary Jobe, the chairman of the board of trustees of the PPP Party who was among those who escorted the PPP candidate for nominations, said Momodou Salieu Jallow is not a candidate by luck but by merit.

“We deliberately selected him because we believe he has the competency and potential to represent the Half-Die Ward,” he said.

Mr Tabora Manneh from the PAP party said his party had a consultation meeting with the PPP party, resulting in their endorsement of the PPP candidate, Momodou Salieu Jallow.

“We had a consultation and agreed to withdraw our candidate and support the PPP. This is a tactical alliance and we have fate in the PPP candidate who can be trusted. This PPP candidate we are giving our support to was offered and discouraged to give up for the position, but he decided to stand his ground to contest,” he said.

He said PPP candidate Jallow understands the challenges the Ward is going through and will give good representation.
