Police To Issue New Number Plates Not Compulsory For Those Already Issued Police Spokesperson

According to a Press Release from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), they (Police) are in partnership with Comfort Quality Services to produce number plates.
The release added that the Office of the Inspector General of Police has introduced new aluminium number plates for vehicles and motorcycles. The Police Public Relations Officer ASP Lamin Nije confirmed to Foroyaa that the new aluminium number plates which the Gambia Police Force will issue to vehicle owners, is not compulsory for those who already have them. “But if vehicle owners want to acquire the new number plates, they can,” he said.
He however said they intend to get rid of the old number plates by replacing them with the new ones; that no deadline is set in acquiring the new one.
ASP Njie said the charges for the new aluminium number plates are as follows: Motor Vehicle Number Plates D1200 (One thousand Two Hundred Dalasi); Motor Cycle Number Plates D630 (Six Hundred and Thirty Dalasi) and personalized Number Plates D5,000 (Five Thousand Dalasi). He said application for replacement requires applicants to have their Valid National Identification Card, Motor vehicle Insurance and to surrender their replaced or old number plates to the Police; that the charges for replacement are the same as stated above.
Police PRO Njie said the provision of new number plates are limited to only Banjul, Kanifing and Brikama for now; but that they plan to extend it to other places. He called on the public to apply for the new number plates; adding “unlike the existing ones, the new number plates are more durable and have stronger security features.”
The Police call on vehicle owners with or without number plates to apply for the new Aluminium Number Plates; that payments are to be made at Trust Bank Ltd where receipts will be issued. Applicants are advised to come along with their receipts to the issuing outlets.
According to the Police, the new number plates are currently issued at the Banjul Police Head Quarters, Kairaba and Brikama Police Stations.
