Police release Journalist Justice Darboe on bail

Mr Momodou Justice Darboe a reporter of The Voice Newspaper was released on bail on Saturday. The police have charged Mr Darboe with false publication and broadcasting contrary to the Criminal Code which carries a maximum fine of D250,000, a minimum fine of D50,000, imprisonment for at least one year or both fine and imprisonment. 
Police arrested and detained him on Thursday 25th after hours of interrogation. He is to report today. In the same vein, police interrogated the proprietor and editor-in-chief of The Voice, Mr Musa Sheriff, and released him after interrogating him for hours without detaining him. When he reported on Friday the police questioned him further. Like Mr Darboe, Mr Musa Sheriff  will report again today. 

Meanwhile the Gambia Press Union issued a press release before the release of Momodou Justice Darboe condemning the threat of the president to institute a libel against him (Darboe) and called on the president to withdraw his action and for the police to drop their case against Darboe.
