Police Launch Manhunt for Runaway US-Gambian National

Police investigators have launched manhunt for a US-Gambian national who was allegedly caught with a pistol loaded with live rounds.

The gunman, identified as one Ebrahim – a primary suspect is still on the run.  Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, Modou Musa Sisawo, the acting spokesperson of the police said the driver of the vehicle, Muhammed Sosseh, was arrested and has since been bailed. Cadet ASP Sisawo added that the driver is now reporting on bail and fully cooperating with investigators to ensure his runway colleague (primary-suspect) is apprehended.

“We are yet to have him (Ebrahim) arrested. Investigation and efforts to arrest him is still ongoing,’’ he told Foroyaa.

The police encouraged the public to report people they see having in their possession gun.

The police issued a statement, which reads: 

“The Tourism Security Unit of The Gambia Police Force arrested a 35-year-old man from Cape Point during a highway patrol search of vehicles around the tourism areas on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

The pistol, a “Ruger” type, was loaded with six 9mm live rounds when it was discovered in a vehicle. During the search, one of the two people in the vehicle managed to escape the scene, leaving the driver behind.

The driver, Muhammed Sosseh, who is currently in police custody, claimed that the pistol belongs to his colleague. He mentioned that the colleague had recently arrived from America. While efforts to apprehend the second person in the vehicle, one Ebrahim, are ongoing, Muhammed Sosseh is cooperating with the police in their investigation.”
