The Gambia Police Force is investigating a suspected murder in Brufut Heights, following the discovery of the body of a retired banker, Reuben Andrews, on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The 63-year-old Gambian national was found lifeless and bound with a rope in his bedroom after his wife alerted authorities.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, preliminary investigations indicate that there was forced entry into the residence and evidence of theft. Stolen items from the residence included laptops, phones, and a significant sum of money—$7,000, £2,000, and between D9,000 and D10,000.
“Evidence found at the scene, including a ladder and a cutlass, suggests a violent confrontation,” Sisawo said on March 11. “Footage from the property confirmed that the watchman and maid were present earlier that day. Both individuals, who are believed to be Sierra Leonean nationals, are currently at large and are suspected to be on the run.”
The police have since dispatched a team of Crime Scene Investigators to the location to collect forensic evidence that aids their investigation. The body of the deceased was taken to Ndemban Clinic, where he was declared dead before being transferred to the EFSTH Mortuary for further examination.
Sisawo urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in the investigation. As of now, the police continue to search for the two suspects, while efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crime are underway.
