Police Charge 21 for Online, Phone Scamming

Twenty-one (21) Nigerian nationals have been arrested and charged by the Gambia Police Force (GPF) on allegations of online and phone scamming, police spokesman said.

Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo told Foroyaa on Monday that they were charged with conspiracy to defraud, Unlawful possession of devices and data, Computer related extortion and fraud.

PRO Sisawo said the suspects intended to defraud their targeted people using communication devices. He said they have been charged and the police are still investigating them. 

He explained that some of the suspects who operated from an apartment in Sanchaba Sulay Jobe were rounded up in April 2024, by the Anti-Crime Unit of the police – following an intelligence tip about their activities.  

According to the police, investigators conducted a thorough search on the suspects’ apartment resulting in the recovery of various communication gadgets, including Africell, Qcell SIM Cards, smartphones, iPhones, laptops, Rolex watches, routers, and a diamond tester.
