Police amend Charges Against Baboucar Sey

The police have amended the charges against Baboucar Sey and brought two other charges against him. The charges are now incitement to violence and prohibition of conduct conducive to peace.
He was earlier facing four charges: Conspiracy to commit felony,  destruction of private property, unlawful assembly and use of banners without permit. The reason for dropping the charges is yet to be ascertained.
He was arrested on Friday, 9th June, 2017, around 2pm and was released on bail on Sunday 11 June 2017.H e is still under police bail and he is ordered to report on Monday at the Serrekunda Police Station.
He is a sports presenter at Paradise radio and also a Journalist of West Africa Democracy Radio.
He presents daily from Mondays to Thursdays at Paradise FM (105.7) a morning sports show commonly known as ‘Sports extra Special’ which is a widely known sports program to many football lovers throughout the country.
His arrest came about when he went to answer to a call by the GPF Serrekunda Station and after which he was held under detention till he acquired the police bail. The sports activist especially football is a resident of Kololi who is well known for his activeness. His arrest comes in the wake of a meeting organized by the residents of Kololi, Manjai and Bakoteh to protest the selling of land which they said is reserved land and that Kanifing Municipal Counsel has no right to sell the land to the estate agencies.
The disputed land has two football fields and a vast plot of land which the people opined should be used for the interest of development of the area and should not be sold to any estate agency. The estate agency that bought the land erected fences leaving a small length un-fenced which according to them is the only reserved land for Kololi and the surroundings.
Their banners carried the following “we are here to protect our land, this land is not for sale”.
A Journalist and also a footballer of Johannes Football Club of Kololi, he was one of those who in their opinion think that the land should not be sold but used for the development of Kololi and the surroundings.
