Gambia international Pa Modou Jagne’s Swiss club FC Sion remains in contention for a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
The defender and his club needed at least a draw to book their place in the next round.
But as fate will have it, they were made to wait after losing 2-0 to Russian Rubin Kazan consequently seeing them drop to second in the group now topped by Liverpool FC.
26-year-old Jagne, who been invaluable for the side, was ruled out throughout the game due to injury. He’s however expected to recuperate and return to the fold soon.
Sion’s next assignment is against Liverpool in Zurich. A draw or win will see them qualify.
It’s a similar story for another Gambian Kebba Ceesay and his Lech Poznan outfit who last week drew Portuguese side Belenense. Ceesay watched from the bench as they held the Premeira Liga to a goalless draw. Lech Poznan are on five points third in the group.
A win against table-topping Basel will see them safely through depending on outcome of other games.
