Ousainou Bojang, the man accused of killing two police officers and leaving a policewoman with life-threatening injuries, faced cross-examination on Friday before the Banjul High Court.

Bojang, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of opening fire on the officers at the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Lights in September 2023. With his defense already underway, prosecutors are working to dismantle his version of events.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Abdul Maita Yusuf led the questioning, focusing not only on the night of the shooting but also on Bojang’s personal relationships and online activities. The prosecution pressed him about his connection to Claudette Francis, a foreign national he claims leaked a nude video of him online.

“When did you become aware that the video was circulating?” Yusuf asked.

“In September 2023. My friend Ousman Colley told me about it first,” Bojang said.

“You claim you never saw it yourself, so how did you know it existed?”

“At the police station, Sidi Sonko confirmed it and advised me to stay out of public places,” Bojang responded.

The prosecution then turned to Bojang’s movements on the night of the killings. Yusuf highlighted that Bojang had met with his brother, Pa Bojang, late that evening.

“What did you discuss?” the prosecutor asked.

“It was personal,” Bojang said before eventually admitting that they spoke about money issues related to Francis.

“You didn’t tell him about the police shooting?” Yusuf pressed.

“No,” Bojang insisted.

Yusuf then introduced Exhibit D22, Bojang’s mobile phone, revealing that it contained social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The prosecutor suggested Bojang was aware of the police killings earlier than he claimed.

“When you heard about the shooting, did you check social media?”

“No, that was not my concern,” Bojang replied.

The prosecution also confronted Bojang about switching his SIM card to a simpler phone after the attack, questioning whether he was trying to cover his tracks. Bojang said he couldn’t recall who he last spoke to on September 12 or 13, 2023, though he admitted calling his sister.

The trial resumes on Monday at 2:15 p.m.
