QUESTION OF THE DAY

According to the press release from the IEC National Assembly election will take place on 9th April. Section 96(1) of the Constitution states:

“There shall be a general election of all the members of the National Assembly which shall be held four months after the date of election to the office of the President.”

The simple and ordinary meaning of the Constitution is that national assembly election should take place four months after 4th December 2021. This should be exactly 4th April 2022.

Foroyaa will contact the IEC to find out the basis of its decision.
