By Muhammad Bah The case of Mr. Lamin Nyangado, the former Head of the Policy and Advocacy Department of Action Aid International The Gambia (AAITG), who is claiming wrongful dismissal by his former employer, proceeded yesterday, 3rd March, 2015 at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal. Giving evidence before the tribunal, he told the tribunal that he is 57 years old and has 3 years left for his retirement when he was unlawfully sacked. Mr. Nyangado said he was informed on the 10th of December 2013 by the then acting Director who is the current Director that his service will be ending on the 31st December 2013. He added that his position was not provided for in the organization for the upcoming period. He told the tribunal that this came at a surprise to him as it coincided with his return from a short trip to Dakar where he visited for medical treatment and of which his employer, the defendant paid 75% of the bill. He said he came on Sunday, 8th December and went to work on Monday, and then on Tuesday, the 10th, he was told by the acting Director that his service will be ending on 31st December 2013. “It was a shock and I could not respond to the information he gave me at the moment,” he said. Mr. Nyangado is represented by Lawyer Kebba Sanyang while lawyer Hawa Sisay Sabally appeared for the defendant. The lawyer of the plaintiff (Sanyang) asked for an adjournment and the tribunal accordingly adjourned the matter to 25th of March 2015 for continuation of proceedings.
