The National People’s Party (NPP) has held its second National Congress in Jarra Soma, where President Adama Barrow, party leader and secretary general of the NPP, called on party leaders, activists, civil society organisations, the private sector, and every Gambian, to work with them, for a better Gambia.
At the Saturday congress, the NPP executive members were unchallenged for their positions. President Barrow remains the party leader and secretary general, while Dembo Bojang commonly known as ‘Dembo By force’, remains the national president of the NPP. Demba Sabally, the minister of agriculture remains the Deputy National President, while Suku Singhateh remains the second Deputy National President of the NPP. Lamin Queen Jammeh remains as spokesperson while Hon. Seedy SK Njie, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, remains deputy spokesperson of the NPP. Musa Drammeh, the Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources, and National Assembly Matter remains as National Treasurer of the NPP, to name a few.
President Barrow told his fellow party members to focus on 2026, encouraging them to be more determined and involved in the affairs of the party by working harder to bring every Gambian on board.
“As the party in government, we have a solemn responsibility to lead by example. To overcome hunger, drive national progress, and compete on the global stage, we must embrace a transformative shift towards building a robust economy,” Barrow told his party militants.
President Barrow advised his party members to reject propaganda that incites hate, violence, and disunity among them and champion a culture of dialogue, respect, and solidarity.
He said their challenge is not just about winning the election again but about collectively building a stronger, more resilient, and inclusive Gambia that exemplifies opportunity, prosperity, equality, and justice for every Gambian. In this light, the NPP secretary general said his government has collaborated with stakeholders to develop a new constitution.
“The product is a draft constitution designed to be inclusive, democratic, and reflective of the aspiration of all Gambians, at home and in the diaspora,” he said.
The president boasted about his achievements in women’s affairs, agriculture, education, and other sectors before his party members, saying there is no sector that has not been given due attention by his government.
