The Rotary Club of Brusubi has inaugurated a new water supply facility for the Kabafita Lower Basic School in Brikama.
According to officials, this is meant to enhance access to clean water for students and promote their health.
The event which was held on Saturday June 20th 2020 at the Kabafita Lower Basic School in Brikama, aims to provide 3,500 students with better water facilities with the establishment of a borehole, a water reservoir, and the provision of water access points at a cost of GMD 400,000.
The project which started in October 2019 was completed in February this year. However, the handing over ceremony was delayed due to the current state of public emergency, officials disclosed.
Fatou Gassama, President of the Rotary Club of Brusubi, said the provision of potable water facilities to a School is a necessity at this time when authorities emphasize the importance of hand washing; that this is an adequate intervention that will be of great use to students when normal classes resume.
Olimatta Taal, Committee Chairperson of the Rotary Club of Brusubi, said their mission is to provide services to others, promote integrity and advance the world through mutual understanding, goodwill and peace, through their fellowship of business professionals and community leaders.
Yaya Jatta, Deputy Head teacher of Kabafita Lower Basic applauded the gesture of the Rotary Club of Burusubi and thanked the donors for their support. Other speakers were Bakary Tambedou who represented the Regional Directorate of Education.
