The National Water and Electricity Company has terminated the services of its Treasury Manager and suspended the Director of Finance following allegations of misconduct involving a telephone conversation between the Director of Finance and a purported supplier.
In a press release seen by Foroyaa, NAWEC stated that the alleged conversation involved unauthorized financial arrangement which violates the company policies and ethical standards.
‘NAWEC has a zero-tolerance stance on unethical practices and a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of public resources,’ the press release added.
It further stated that the Gambia Police Force and the NAWEC compliance team are investigating the matter surrounding the alleged financial misconduct.
‘If the allegation is substantiated, the company will take decisive disciplinary and legal actions in line with its internal policies and national laws.
‘We appeal to the public and media to exercise restraint while investigation is underway. Updates will be communicated in a timely manner,’ it concluded.
