The Gambia National Assembly is gearing up for the committee meetings and sessions in the 2025 Legislative Year, which will commence on Monday, 13 January 2025.

This and other developments regarding the activities of the legislature are contained in the 2025 calendar of the parliament.

“National Assembly is scheduled to commence committee meetings and sessions in the 2025 legislative year on Monday 13th to 23rd January 2025”,  according to the parliament.

In January 2025, the calendar further disclosed that various meetings are scheduled to be held such as the meetings of the parliamentary bureau of committees, management meetings, and retreats, expected to be held from 23 to 31 January 2025.

It also indicated that the meetings of the National Assembly Members and Clerks Meeting, and the second edition of the parliamentary retreat are all anticipated to be conducted during the onset of the 2025 legislative year.

Currently, some of the committees such as the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC), have unfinished businesses before them.

These parliamentary committees include but are not limited to the FPAC, which is currently probing into the Parliamentary Inquiry into the petroleum product.

The said product is in the tune of 36,953,614 metric tons and is valued at US$30,000,000 (approximately D2, 040,000,000.00).

The inquiry started in the 2024 legislative year, but as the life of the 2024 legislative year came to an end, the parliament had to suspend the inquiry, until the 2025 legislative year.

During its engagements, the FPAC received testimonies from entities such as the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), The Central Bank of the Gambia (CBG), Eco Bank Gambia Limited, Gam Petroleum, and the Management of the Gambia National Petroleum Company (GNPC) amongst a host of other institutions.

With the resumption of the said proposed committee meetings and sessions in the 2025 legislative year, it is anticipated that such unfinished businesses of the parliament will continue to completion.

This will enable the legislature to establish the facts of the matter, and recommend possible actions.
