The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia (DLEAG) has over the weekend taken into custody ten people including a child after they were allegedly caught with suspected prohibited drugs.
The information was confirmed by Dawda Sanyang, a senior drug law enforcement officer at DLEAG’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit. They were arrested at different areas by narcotic officers.
22-year-old SannaKebbeh, a resident of Brikama was arrested by Brikama DLEAG Station on the 12 of September 2023 allegedly with fifty-three (53) wraps of suspected cannabis ruderalis (Skunk), which was concealed in white paper and placed inside a transparent medicinal bag.
Also, 24-year-old Lamin Gassama, also a resident of Brikama was also arrested by the same DLEAG station on the same day allegedly with fifty-three (53) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, which was concealed in white paper and placed inside a black bag with green and red colour.
The narcotics officers reported that 29-year-old Bakary Jaiteh, a resident of Sika Village in the North Bank Region, was arrested by the Barra DLEAG Station on the 15th of September allegedly with two medium bundles, one parcel and one wrap of suspected cannabis sativa, which was concealed in white and brown cement paper respectively.
19-year-old Salifu Bah, also a resident of Sika Village was also arrested by the Barra DLEAG Station on the 13th of September allegedly with one plantain of suspected cannabis sativa, which was planted in a basin in his backyard. 18-year-old MalickJammeh, a resident of London Corner was arrested by the Tallinding DLEAG Station on the 14th of September allegedly with twenty-eight (28) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, which was concealed in white paper and placed inside a brown small purse.
“27-year-old Kebba Fatty, a resident of Kerr Sering was also arrested by the Kotu DLEAG Station on the 10th of September allegedly with fifteen (15) wraps of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) and one wrap of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), which was concealed in a transparent nylon bag and inside a multicolor bubble gum packet,” the narcotics officers reveal.
They further said that 19-year-old Seedy Saidy, a resident of Sukuta, was arrested by Brikama DLEAG Station on the 8th of September allegedly with eleven (11) stones of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), six (6) pills of ecstasy and nineteen (19) wraps of suspected kush, which were all concealed in a white nylon bag and placed inside a transparent nylon bag.
“9-year-old Mahtarr Barry, a resident of Younna Village, was arrested by Brikama DLEAG Station at Sukuta on the 8th of September allegedly with twenty-three (23) pills of ecstasy, which was concealed in a plastic bag and placed on top of his veranda. 37-year-old Modou Bah, a resident of Brikama was arrested by Brikama DLEAG Station on the 11th of September 2023 allegedly with thirteen (13) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa, which was concealed in a white paper, multi coloured bag and placed inside a camouflage bag,” they reported.
Meanwhile, the narcotic officers disclosed that an alleged child offender (ACO) was arrested by Basse DLEAG Station at Kabba Kama on the 12th of September allegedly with seven (7) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, which was concealed in white paper and placed inside a black cross bag.
Dawda Sanyang said all the suspects were in custody while his office is continuing with the investigations.
