NACOFAG ELECTS A NEW PRESIDENT

In its 3rd National Congress held in the town of Farafenni, North Bank Region (NBR), the National Coordinating Organization ofMr. Sowe Farmers Association the Gambia (NACOFAG) elected a new president in person of Musa F. Sowe.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Sowe, the newly elected President of the Network, thanked all those who in one way or the other have contributed in entrusting him and the Board the responsibility to steer the affairs of the farmers network.

He thanked the partners namely FAO, NACO, ROPPA, IFAD and MOA, among others, for supporting the successful organisation of the congress.

On behalf of the newly elected Board, he expressed delight for the trust bestowed on him and promised to meet standards as they  move into another phase of development for the farmers and community forests organisations of the Gambia.

He promised to strengthen the bilateral relations that exist between NACOFAG and other sub-regional, regional and global networks with a common objective, adding that the already existing relationship with the ministries of agriculture, forestry, environment, fisheries, trade, national youth council and the women’s bureau will continue to be strengthened. He said the already existing partnership with FAO, the NEMA Project, GCAV and FASDEP under the auspices of the ANR working group, department of planning MoA and WAAPP will also be strenghtened.

He assured the members to work with his board to bridge the capacity gap of the network and promote the co-existence that binds them together as a family. He thanked the outgoing executive board for their good work and the donors for supporting the congress.

The newly elected president finally thanked the farmers and their leaders for the trust they unanimously placed him and the rest of the members of the Board without subjecting them to a voting process.

“This is real cooperation in the attainment of our democratic rights as individuals and as organisations at all levels,” he concluded.
