MoYS to hold 7 day National Youth summer Camp

The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Sports Council will organise a seven day national youth summer camp from the 1-7 September, 2016, at the friendship Hostel, Independence Stadium in Bakau.

This was disclosed by Pa Suwareh Faye, National Youth Summer Camp Chairman, Ministry of Youths and Sports (MoYS).

Mr. Faye noted that the youth summer camp has been part of the Ministry’s agenda since 2011 and forms the basis of youths and children’s empowerment.

“This youth camp is aimed at bringing youth all over the country from different works of life, to come together, learn new things, interact and share best practices amongst themselves,” Mr.  Faye said.

The youth camp Chairman said their target participants are from age 8-15 years. He said the theme for this year camp is “Educating Young People, on the fight against Gender Based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation, early Child marriage, open defecation and to enhance peace through sports and culture.

“This is the entire thing we are going to do during the course of the camp, and there are sporting programs, such as basketball, football, athletics, volleyball, handball, cricket among many other sports events,” he stated.

Mr. Faye said there will be quiz, debate and beauty pageant, hair dressing, and public speaking as part of the activities.

According to him, the training will not only be confined to one place but participants will also be embarking on field visits to various places, such as state media outlets, Kachikally Crocodile Pool, amongst many other important public places. This he continues will enable participants to have experience on those places.

In another development the Gambia Red Cross Society Banjul Link on Sunday, 28 August, 2016, concluded a Weekend Children’s camp at Muhammedan Lower Basic School in Banjul. The event brought together about 51 children from different regions to come together and learn leadership skills as well as public speaking.
