Authorities of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) have confirmed that the recently appointed campaign manager for the United Democratic Party (UDP), Momodou Sabally, still remains in their custody.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Cadet ASP Muhammed Darboe, confirmed to this medium that Sabally is helping the Police in their investigations on allegations of a viral circulation he (Sabally) made, suggesting how the president will be unseated before the 2023 local government elections.

“Momodou Sabally is smoothly undergoing the investigation processes with the police. He is granted all permission to legal representation and his lawyer is present when he was writing his statement,” Cadet ASP Darboe added.

However, Daboe said the police are not allowing any unwarranted entries into the premises where investigations are ongoing.

On whether charges are preferred against Sabally, he responded in the negative. Notwithstanding, he said the Police has taken note of the Constitutional requirement of 72hrs to either charge and arraign him before a competent court of law, or release him; That while the police continue to observe all legitimate procedures of the investigation, the general public especially online users, are advised to avoid misinforming the public and spreading false information that is capable of causing panic.
