MAMBURY NJIE STILL DETAINED FOR 96 DAYS

By Mustapha Jallow Mr Mambury Njie, a former Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, is still under Mambury Njiedetention at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul for 96 days without release or court appearance. He is being detained beyond the 72 hours requirement of the 1997 Constitution of the Second Republic. A family source reported that Mr. Njie was re-arrested by operatives of the NIA at his residence in Brusubi on 9 October, 2014 and whisked away to the NIA detention centre in Banjul. This last arrest and subsequent detention, among previous ones, came in the wake of Mr. Njie’s acquittal and discharge on two counts of economic crime and neglect of official duty by Justice Mikailu Abdulahi of the Special Criminal Division of the High Court in Banjul on 3 July 2014.  ]]>
