Football Association of Malaysia is in hot pursuit of a Gambian player to get him naturalise, Foroyaa Sport was
informed.
Muhamed Sumareh has attracted the interest of the Malaysia national team coaches since winning a promotion to the Super League with police outfit PDRM last season.
The Southeast Asian country is ardent on breaking onto the international football scene, and in the pursuit of their drive, the Football Association has prioritised luring a number of foreign exports to their senior national team.
Top on their wish-list is Fajara-born 21-year-old Muhammed. So impressed are the Malaysians about the Gambian’s talent that they made their intentions formal by offering him a Malaysian passport last month.
Fifa rules state that a player can play international and still switch before age 23.
However, despite the process having already started to secure him Malaysian citizenship, Muhammed has disclosed to Foroyaa Sport that he iss leaving his options open in the hope of an invitation from the Gambia Football Federation.
Details of the player have been forwarded to Football House but GFF’s Ebou Faye insists that final selection is down to the Scorpion gaffer, the Swiss-born Raoul Savoy.
The skillful attacking midfielder, who is also comfortable on the right wing, was recently part of the Malaysia XII selection that took on English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs in May in a pre-season game.
The ace was first under Teregganu’s books three years ago but the deposed champions, on reflection, might now be biting their fingers for their poor judgment on letting go of this developing Sumareh.
The winger was on the brink of brokering a deal with then Laliga outfit Real Mallorca after a successful trial. But negotiations hit the brick walls after his agent could not agree on terms with the Spanish giants.
Already, he has three goals in 19 games featuring mostly as an attacking midfielder.]]>
