Magistrate S.M. Dem of Brikama Magistrates Court has convicted Saikou Tunkara and imposed a fine of five thousand dalasi (D5,000) on him for stealing from a dwelling house. Tunkara was given the alternative of one month imprisonment in default of payment.
The case was heard on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, with the prosecutor, Corporal 1075 A. Sanneh, representing the Inspector General of Police. The accused, Tunkara, appeared in court without legal representation.
After the charge sheet had been read aloud, Tunkara pleaded guilty to the offense of stealing from a dwelling house. According to the charge, Tunkara unlawfully entered the residence of Amadou Tijan Jallow on or about March 17, 2025, in Giboro Koto, located in the West Coast Region of The Gambia.
Tunkara was found to have stolen the following items: One power bank, valued at one thousand dalasi (D1,000), and fiscal cash amounting to seven thousand dalasi (D7,000), along with an unspecified amount of CFA. The total value of the stolen items amounted to eight thousand dalasi (D8,000), all of which were the property of Amadou Tijan Jallow.
Following his guilty plea, the magistrate sentenced Tunkara to pay a fine of five thousand dalasi (D5,000), with the alternative of serving one month in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
