Madi Jobarteh has been released on bail after being arrested by the police at his residence on Monday 9th October. The arrest occurred after he was summoned by the police on October 6, 2022, for questioning regarding his comments and posts on social media.
Madi informed the police that he was unwell and unable to attend the questioning session. In response, the police warned him that failure to comply would result in necessary action, including his arrest at his residence. As a result, he was arrested on October 9 and remained in custody until October 11.
Today, Madi has been released on bail after spending three days at the Anti-crime. He was asked to produce one Gambian surety and a bail bond of D100,000 with the condition of presenting himself at the SIU in Banjul on October 26, 2023. However, no charges have been filed against him at this point.
Information gathered indicated that Madi Jobarteh’s health deteriorated while in detention at the anti-crime unit on Tuesday afternoon. He was subsequently taken to the Westfield Clinic, where security personnel have been stationed.
Yesterday morning, Madi’s lawyers met with SIU officials at the clinic to finalize the bail arrangements. The police have since left the clinic, but Madi Jobarteh remains under the care of his family while still admitted.
