Solo Bojang, a lieutenant colonel in the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF),
who was the commander of the State Guards in the president’s
home village of Kanilai as well as a former manager of the Kanilai
Family Farms (KFF), is still in detention without trial for 9 months
, according to a family source.The source said they are not allowed access to Bojang and that he is
at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) detention place in Tanji. He
added that the reason for his detention is still not known by the
family.
Bojang was arrested and subsequently detained immediately after his
acquittal and discharge by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on 12 May
2014 on three counts of ‘Abuse of office’, ‘Conspiracy’ and ‘Theft’
and convicted on the ‘False information’ charge. He was then fined
D50, 000 which was paid, according to the family.
The family is still calling on the state to help in ensuring his
release from his incommunicado detention.]]>
