Kumba Sinyan, a lady standing trial for allegedly murdering her boyfriend, is suffering from psychological issues, says her Lawyer.
Kumba Sinyan is facing a single count of murder. The prosecution alleged that she killed her boyfriend, Lamarana Jallow, by cutting his stomach with a razor blade, which caused his death. The alleged incident occurred at the Friendship Hostel in Bakau in September 2022.
The prosecution had already called ten (10) witnesses and tendered several exhibits to prove her guilt. She pleaded not guilty and she was supposed to open her defence.
Kumba Sinyan was expected to open her defence on Monday, 15 April, but her Lawyer, Sagarr Twum, informed the court that she had a doctor’s advice for her to be excused from attending court proceedings.
“I was in Mile 2 this morning and my client informed me that she is sick and didn’t sleep the whole night because she was suffering from headache and dizziness. I had to accompany her to the hospital,” Lawyer Sagarr Twum submitted.
The Senior Lawyer further informed the court the accused (Kumba Sinyan) was attended to by a doctor, who advised that she should be excused from appearing before court yesterday since she had psychologically problems and needed support.
Counsel Sagarr presented a medical report as evidence. The state prosecutor did not object to the adjournment, but asked the defence to do the needful before the next adjourned date for the case to proceed.
The case was adjourned to 24th April 2024.
