The Mayor of the Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, on Monday 27th February 2023 laid the foundation stone for a park facility that will accommodate the sporting disciplines of football and basketball, and a children’s play ground, in the Kanifing East community. The project is funded by “KETP” through European Union. The initiative which is part of KMC’s Environmental Transformation Programme ( KETP), is geared towards community development. The community parking is aimed at increasing youth involvement in sporting activities for the betterment of all recreational engagements. The laying of foundation stone of the park by the Lord Mayor came following some community engagements with residents and his council. The community of Kanifing has awaited for such a park that will meet all the requirements of all sporting activities.
Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda applauded the community for supporting his initiatives including the youth. He said Kanifing East deserves a well structured park that will enhance all sporting activities ranging from football, basketball, tennis and a children’s play ground.
KM leader said youth involvement in sport is very crucial in contributing significantly to the development of sport, and noted that sport does not only provide fun but plays a huge part in ensuring a healthy and youthful community.
Matarr Jobe, president of the Kanifing Community Centre commended KMC for what he called a job well done. He said such a park will create a huge impact on the lives of the youth of Kanifing as well as create a lively environment for children. He added that youth are very keen about football, and with this park, it will create many opportunities for young people and their community as a whole.
Wurra Bah, the deputy administrative director said the Kanifing Environmental Transformation Programme ( KETP) is a project initiated to support the people of Kanifing Municipality with issues regarding their environment.
