QUESTION OF THE DAY

IS THE AMBIANCE CHARACTERIZING HEIGHTENED POLITICAL ACTIVITY GRIPPING THE GAMBIA?

Nine months before the slated Presidential election, political parties like the APRC, UDP and PDOIS seem to be heightening their political activities.

PDOIS was the first to announce the nomination of its presidential candidate on 24 February 2016 and it is to hold a Convention on Saturday, 19 March, 2016 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel where it will receive pledges and a policy statement from its candidate.

The APRC followed with an emergency congress on to amend its constitution and select its flag bearer on 25 February 2016.

UDP is holding rallies and has slated its congress in April after which it will select its flag bearer.

Many young people have decided to go and register to be voters. They are attending rallies in larger numbers.

If the ambiance continues in March and April with increased participation of all the other opposition political parties and the possibilities of alliances, the political landscape of the Gambia is likely to be reshaped like never before.

The future appears to be bright.
