The Gambia Teachers’ Union (GTU) on Wednesday, 8 January 2025 donated five computers with accessories to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education’s Human Resource Directorate to enhance service delivery and data management, the ministry said in a post on official Facebook page.
Delivering the donated items to the Permanent Secretary of MoBSE on behalf of the GTU, Mr. Essa Sowe, Deputy Secretary General of GTU, said the Union has noted with great concern during the recent implementation of the Revised Scheme of Service (SoS), that the Human Resource Directorate of MoBSE faces resources challenges, which as a result, some of the teachers were inadvertently omitted in the HR data of the Directorate.
According to Mr. Sowe, the GTU is committed to support MoBSE in ensuring effective service delivery, as well as pursue the welfare of their members. He said the donated computers are intended to support the HRD of the Ministry, in the compilation and management of up-to-date teacher’s data to ensure that no teacher is left behind in such important exercises.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ministry, Mr. Louis Moses Mendy, the permanent secretary of MoBSE, thanked the Gambia Teachers’ Union for the valuable gesture, adding that the donated computers will significantly contribute towards improving service delivery, and ensure effective staff data management for the Ministry.
