The Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 informed the press that the Police have completed their investigations into the unburned prohibited drugs and have submitted their report for legal action to be taken.

It was widely reported that during the 2024 public destruction of seized drugs by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG), a significant amount of seized prohibited drugs were unburned.

This information led the police to investigate the veracity of the allegations.

“The Gambia Police Force has successfully concluded its investigation into allegations surrounding the “unburned prohibited drugs” incident, which followed the public destruction of seized drugs by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG). This thorough investigation aims to uphold justice and transparency in handling prohibited substances,” PRO Sisawo said.

He said the investigative panel has submitted a comprehensive case docket and report to the police high command for onward transmission to the Office of the Attorney General, where the findings will undergo legal review for appropriate action.

PRO Sisawo said the Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, commended the panel for their professionalism and diligence in handling this matter, adding that the IGP also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and patience during the investigations.

“Acting on directives from the Ministry of the Interior, an investigation panel led by the Police probed into the matter to ensure that all allegations were thoroughly examined, and to uphold the integrity of our efforts against drug-related crimes,” PRO Sisawo said. That the Police remain committed to its zero-tolerance policy on drugs and will hold accountable all those who seek to undermine national security.

The public is therefore urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activitie(s) to aid the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
