GOVERNMENT FINALLY PUBLISHES LIST OF PARDONED PRISONERS 237 prisoners pardoned

The Government of The Gambia has finally published the proclamation on the list of pardoned prisoners in compliance with theMile II Constitution. The proclamation was published in the Gambia Gazette Number 21 Vol. 132 and dated 27th August 2015, although the publication was ready and accessible to the public on 14th September 2015.

The proclamation reads as follows:

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS BY Section 82 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, the President may exercise his Prerogative of Mercy in respect of any person convicted of any offence.

AND WHEREAS the President considers the commemoration of the July 22nd Revolution as an appropriate occasion to exercise his Prerogative of Mercy on the person listed in the Schedule hereto, who are serving sentences of imprisonment after conviction of offences committed contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SHEIKH PROFESSOR ALHAJI DR. YAHYA A.J.J. JAMMEH BABILI MANSA, the president of the Republic of The Gambia, in exercise of the power conferred on me by section 82 of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, do hereby grant remission of the remaining un-served sentences of imprisonment to the persons named in the Schedule hereto.
