The Scorpions scored some positives to mark start turn of a new year scaling four steps up on FIFA Coca-cola ranking.
Coach-less Gambia is ranked as the World’s 164th best on one hundred and thirty-five points, moving four places from their previous 168th position.
Rating is gauged based on regular participation in competitions including friendlies which despite the Scorpions failure to play an international match since October, still saw them climb few steps up the ladder.
They sit 48th in Africa above only minnows Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, Djibouti, Somalia and rarely-known footballing nation Eritrea.
The scorpions were jettisoned off the World Cup 2018 Russia preliminary rounds after failing to get past a reinvigorated Tanzania them with only the Gabon Afcon qualifiers to fight for.
Gambia is third in group F of the qualifiers on a solitary point –scored in a drab goalless stalemate with South Africa in Durban -in two matches played so far.
The outfit, without a gaffer after Savoy’s sacking, faces Mauritania who appears to be punching above their weights on the back of their 3-0 annihilation of South Africa.
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions who pulled the trigger and replaced their gaffer lead the way on six points while minnows Mauritania are second best in the pool.
