By Sulayman Bah Gambia National Olympic Committee headquarters last week Friday hosted a three-man delegation from the National Sports Council to talk peace, Foroyaa Sport can reveal. The delegation, led by Executive Director Marcel Mendy, comprising sports council’s Ebou Secka and Lamin Marong were received by Olympic House’s Beatrice Allen and other top bureau members. In a meeting promptly convened, the two parties are said to have talked of burying the hatchet that has long dogged their relationship. The discussion, held behind closed doors, wrapped up with both sides satisfied, an unimpeachable source discloses to Foroyaa Sport. Ties between the NSC and GNOC have been at best strained in recent years. In a long standing conflict only renewed last year, began after the council and Ministry of Youth and Sports –representing government – rejected the bureau’s polls sham in the wake of dispute over the voters’ list. Vexed by the situation, orders were placed forcing indefinite closure of the GNOC headquarters before International Olympic Committee (IOC) ordered government to re-open the structure or Gambia risk international suspension. ]]>
