Gamtel has made a strong claim to be considered genuine title
contenders this season after topping first part of the First Eco
sponsored league championship There isn’t a gong Tapha Manneh and his regiment of troops haven’t won –winning the FA Cup a record four-time.But the league staked prize continues to elude the telecom giants
spanning from the day the club attained divisional status.
This year, however, despite without a number of the side’s notable
players –some bought others loaned -, Gamtel are looking to break such
a hoodoo painstakingly now associated with club beginning with topping
first part of the league following a 1-0 win over Wallidan.
To reach such stride, Manneh and his 2011 Wafu Cup finalists must
widen the current one point gap between them and reigning champions
Real de Banjul who closely sit second.
They have eleven more games to see out when the second part begins.
In another fixture Bombada were held to a goalless draw by Brikama
United in an all Brikama-based clubs derby. They occupy third in the
standings on twenty points, three behind second-placed Real de Banjul
(RDB).
RDB played their final game, rescheduled due to their Caf Champions
League engagement, against Banjul United. And against capital nemesis
United, the champions could merely wriggle out a goalless draw.
Finally, joint fourth-placed Gambia Ports Authority rubbed salt to a
split wound beating basement table occupants Serrekunda United 1-0.
