Gambian President Appoints Colonel Ousman Gomez as Army Commander

Gambian leader and Commander in Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces, President Adama Barrow, has appointed Colonel Ousman Gomez as Commander of the Gambia National Army.

A media release issued by The Gambia Armed Forces said on Monday President Barrow has in the same vein appointed Colonel Turo Jawneh as Commander of the Republican National Guards and Colonel Sait Njie is now assigned the role of Commanding Officer of the State Guards Battalion.

“Colonel Ousman Gomez – Commander of the Gambia National Army who is preparing to defend his Second Master’s degree thesis on Peace and Conflict Resolution at International Christian University in Japan was until recently the Force Provost Marshal (Military Police Chief) and Legal Advisor to the Chief of Defence Staff,” the release added.

According to the Gambia Armed Forces, Colonel Turo Jawneh – Commander of the Republican National Guards was until his new appointment the Commanding Officer of the State Guards Battalion since 2017.
