A Gambian referee has been unanimously acclaimed as the continent’s
best referee, Foroyaa Sport can report.
Papa Gassama fend off stiff competition from rival candidates such as
Cameroon’s Alioum Neant and Doue Noumadiez to land on the coveted
prize.The 37-year-old whistle guru scooped the coveted accolade at the Glo
sponsored Caf annual awards held in Lagos after having missed it on
the first attempt in 2013.
Last week’s triumph that won plaudits from a plethora of African
football greats makes him the first Gambian to clinch the title. 2014
has been a year of record-setting for Bakary Gassama for becoming the
first Gambian to have refereed in the Qatar Stars League and the 2014
