The Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) launched its second Tobaski Wanterr Trade Fair on Friday under the theme “Youth in Trade, Innovating for a Brighter Future.”
The event, set to take place at Independence Stadium, aims to showcase Gambian products while addressing market accessibility challenges. A total of 200 stalls are available, with a rental cost of D5,500 per stall. Entry tickets are priced at D25.
Neneh Gulo Bah, Vice President of the GYCC Board, described the fair as a celebration of Gambian products and an effort to tackle market congestion issues.
“The trade fair will provide secure and easy access to Gambian goods while serving as a beacon of innovation in trade,” Ms. Bah said.
She added that GYCC will collaborate with market unions, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the fair.
The initiative, she noted, will support youth entrepreneurs, women, agricultural producers, and food vendors, contributing to economic growth and strengthening local businesses and enterprises.
Ms. Bah urged vendors to participate and encouraged customers to support Gambian products, emphasising the role of innovation and unity in trade.
GYCC Board President Modou Lamin Gassama said the fair will help small businesses gain market access, increase visibility, and build strong brands.
“Small enterprises play a significant role in the local economy,” Mr. Gassama said, highlighting the need for greater partnerships and cooperation in the informal sector.
He also emphasized that while many trade fairs are geared towards larger businesses, this event provides an opportunity for small businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase their products.
“Every business has strengths that others can benefit from,” he said. “This trade fair will create opportunities for small businesses to display their goods and services.”
GYCC CEO Fatima Muloshi encouraged all small business owners to participate in the fair, describing it as an important platform to promote businesses and showcase locally made products.
