The Gambia National U20 team secured a 2-0 win over a selection of Gambian overseas players on holiday, the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) media disclosed on Wednesday. The overseas players ply their trade in the Senegalese leagues
The friendly match, which was played on Wednesday at the late Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum, was part of preparations ahead of the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023. The Gambia U-20 team has been pitted against Tunisia, Benin and Zambia in Group C and they will begin their campaign against Tunisia before facing Zambia and Benin.
“Steve Biko’s duo Ismaila Manneh and Adama Bojang came from the bench to score for the Young Scorpions with their brilliant kicks against the pros. The selection side could have pulled one back but their spot kick was wayward to end the game 2-0 at full time,” GFF media stated.
The match comes after the young scorpions had recently cancelled a friendly against second division side Tallinding United.
“The proposed friendly match between Young Scorpion’s (U20) and Tallinding United which was scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 22nd December has been cancelled,” GFF media stated then.
