GAMBIA TABLES MDGs PROGRESS REPORT AT ECOSOG Ministry of Finance press statement

Kebba S Touray Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York, on the occasion of the annual Ministerial review on progress towards the implementation of the MDGs and preparations for the Post 2015 agenda. The Gambia was one of ten countries, namely; Georgia, Mexico, Thailand, Kuwait, Qatar, United Kingdom, Bolivia, Sudan and Palestine that made presentations on their country’s progress report. The full reports are translated in all six languages of the United Nations and can be accessed in the UN website. The Gambia is among few countries in sub-saharan Africa that have registered substantial progress towards the attainment of the MDGs especially on the important Goals of Education, Health and Gender, some of which have already been achieved. Honorable Kebba S Touray, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs made the presentation for the Gambia and presented on the occasion where His Excellency Mamadou Tangara, Gambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Yankuba Drammeh, Deputy Head of Mission, and Juldeh Ceesay, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and Focal person for the MDGs were present. The Republic of Turkey and Nigeria were the reviewers of Gambia’s report and in their review statements, both countries commended Gambia’s laudable efforts towards the attainment of the MDGs.
