GAMBIA CONTINUES TO DESCEND IN FIFA RANKING

By Sulayman Bah Gambia’s abysmal run on FIFA ranking is showing no sign of Tabating as the Scorpions glide further than their previous month’s ranking. A Coach-less Gambia occupied 166th last month. It was hoped the country’s rating will improve at least this term following talks of a proposed friendly match. But events have taken a turn for the worst with the Scorpions rated at 168th by FIFA’s Coca-Cola October 23rd release in what’s arguably the biggest fall for the West African nation in recent years. With a mere ninety-nine points, a side once considered Africa’s biggest emerging football nation in 2008, sits only twelve places ahead of the World’s bottom ranked football minnows Dominica. Similar news of poor run follows in CAF ranking with Gambia sitting nine places above bottom –placed Djibouti. The Desert Foxes of Algeria lead in Africa ahead of Second-placed Ivory Coast andAfcon title holders Nigeria ranked 9th. Unsurprisingly, World Cup winners Germany occupy the apex of the world ranking table ahead of Argentina and Colombia who are 2nd and 3rd respectively. The ranking is based on performance-wise including test matches and matters will only get worse unless Gambian begins to hold test matches giving they are ineligible to compete in theAfcon qualifiers and will not play competitive football until probably 2016.]]>
