By Saikou Suwareh Jabai Acting under the dictates of the constitution of the students’ union, the 2014/15 executive of the Gambia college students’ union handedover the mantle of leadership to a new executive during a ceremony held at the college’s main hall last week Delivering his inaugural speech, the incoming president, Ebrima Bah from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, expressed his delight after being chosen to serve as the president of the union for the next academic year. According to him, the college is on the brink of true greatness and ready for its next period of growth and achievement. “You are part of the school, a school where ideas flourish, where voices are heard and where results are readily apparent in the young men and women we send out into the field,” he reminded the students. He promised to promote and protect the core values of unionism. President Bah acknowledged that great challenges lie ahead of them as an executive body but he was swift to add that with togetherness they will resolve them. Also speaking, the newly sworn-in Information Minister, Yusupha Darboe, described it as a challenge to serve as the information minister which he is ready to face. He expressed his desire to work with Gambia College Press provided that they will cope with the rules and regulations governing the information ministry. Minister Darboe revealed his plan to launch a project that will be designed to get every college student covered with regards to information, adding that he will create an online page that will contain up-to-date information about the school. This year’s handing over comes at a time when the union is faced with a lot of challenges, including the absence of the outgoing President Ceesay at the ceremony.]]>
