Masaneh Sonko is still expressing his frustration over the continuous disappearance of his son Omar Sonko who went missing since May 9th 2016 after being said to have been picked up by the police at the residence of lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
According to him, today marks 1 month 27 days since his arrest and disappearance.
Masanneh told Foroyaa yesterday, 26 June, that after all the efforts he had made to locate his son, he is yet to hear from him or know his whereabouts.
“I am frustrated now because I do not know where exactly he is. Some people will tell me he is detained along many others at the Yundum barracks. I have tried to search for him there but to no avail. The entire family is anxious to know his whereabouts and I have now resigned all our hopes to fate,” said the desperate father.
He said his son is a vehicle apprentice working with a driver in the Kombos but that rest of his family, including himself, are all based in Nuimi Darsilami in the North Bank Region.
It was reported earlier that Sonko was working as an apprentice or purser for a commercial vehicle that was hired by the United Democratic Party militants to take them to Banjul in order to attend the court proceedings of Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the party and many others. The father explained that his son was later picked up at the party leader’s residence where the vehicle went to offload those who were on board.
The distraught father, who was speaking on telephone, yesterday said “we are reiterating our calls for the authorities to release him unconditionally and immediately.”
