Farmer Arrested with Suspected Cannabis

Officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency station at the ferry terminal in Banjul have arrested 18-year-old Saikouba Jarra, a Malian residing in Ginack and farmer by profession with two bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed inside a military camouflage bag.

The Public Relations Officer of DLEAG said his agency arrested several suspects with different types of drugs at diverse locations within the country.

He said 37-year-old Ebrima Tamba and 33-year-old Lamin Jarju both residents of Kunkujang were arrested by the Anti-Crime Unit of GPF with nine bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in cement papers and placed inside a blue coloured nylon bag respectively.

“A 32-year-old Thomas Jarju a resident of Latri Kunda German and a welder by profession was arrested by Serrekunda DLEAG station with two bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in cement papers and placed inside a black and blue colour bag pack,” he said.

He said a 34-year-old Mass Senghore a resident of Banjul and welder by profession was arrested by Banjul DLEAG station with fourteen wraps of suspected cannabis sativa which were concealed in white papers and placed inside his waist bag respectively.

Mr Saidyba said Alieu Singhateh and Alieu Baldeh of Latri Kunda Sabiji a mechanic by profession were arrested by Wellingara DLEAG station with ninety-seven parcels of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed with white papers and placed in multi-coloured nylon bags respectively. 

He said all the suspects were taken into custody while further investigations into their respective matters continued.
