By Sailu Bah and Kebba Jeffang Muslims in different places in the country have observed the feast of Eid ul Adha or “Tobaski” on different days, namely, Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, 4 October, places like Banjul, Serekunda, Latrikunda Yiringanya, Dippa Kunda, Bakau, Kololi, Sukuta, Sabiji and many parts of Kombo North, Central and South performed their prayers. Foroyaa has also received reports that prayers were also held on Sunday, 5 October, at such places in the North Bank, Upper River and Western Region to name a few. We are still gathering more facts and will publish the name of the villages if necessary. It is also reported that some people did not actually pray at all at any mosque but had their rams slaughtered on Sunday to mark the feast. It appears that many people have decided to pray on Sunday according to the dictates of their beliefs. The state did not make any announcement threatening to prosecute those who do their prayers on Sunday. Just two months ago during the Eid ul Fitr or Koriteh, contradictory orders were given where some were ordered to pray on a given day while others were permitted to pray on a different day.
