DLEA-G Seizes Bags Filled with Suspected Prohibited Drugs

Agents of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency – the Gambia have seized seven bags filled with alleged prohibited drugs.

Ousman Saidyba, the Public Relations Officer of the Agency said 28-year-old Momodou Sanyang, an apprentice, and 24-year-old Muhammed Mbenga, also an apprentice, were arrested at the Bondali Checkpoint by Agents of Sibanor DLEA-G station with seven bags of suspected cannabis sativa. He said five out of the seven bags were filled with suspected cannabis sativa while the remaining two bags contained a cumulative total of forty-one big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. He said the suspects placed bags of onions on top of the said drugs to conceal them and the means of conveyance of the drugs was by a blue and white Volvo truck with registration number BJL 4121 N. However, he said that one Pateh Ngum and 39-year-old driver of the said vehicle is currently at large.

In a similar but separate development, DLEA-G PRO Saidyba said 25-year-old Njobo Jawo, a resident of Basse Mansajang was arrested by Agents of Basse DLEA-G unit with five pills of ecstasy concealed in newspapers and placed inside a transparent nylon bag.

“24-year-old Abdul Salam Conteh and 32-year-old Alhagie Mustapha Touray, both residents of Dippakunda and Tallinding respectively , were arrested by Agents of Brusubi DLEA-G station with three sachets of suspected ‘Kush’, concealed in transparent nylon bags and further placed in a helmet respectively,” he said.

PRO Saidyba said 35-year-old Amadou Jarju, a resident of Brikama, was arrested by Agents of Mandinaba DLEA-G station with two big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa in twenty-one and twenty-two parcels concealed in cement paper and wrapped inside a blue nylon bag respectively. He said that all the suspects were taken into custody while further investigations into their respective matters continue.
